Biography
Dr. Omar is a US Board-Certified Neurologist and Neurological Oncologist. He also has subspecialized training in Endovascular Neurosurgery from the University of Oxford. Dr. Omar's main area of interest is the development of innovative approaches for the management of brain and spinal cord malignancies. He has a unique set of skills that spans across the various disciplines of Neurosciences. He received training in Endovascular Neurosurgery (University of Oxford), Neurological Oncology (University of Toronto), Neurology (University of Missouri - Columbia), Epilepsy / Epilepsy surgery evaluations, EEG, intraoperative monitoring, subdural grids and depth electrode interpretation (Cleveland Clinic Foundation) and Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience (PhD, University of Ottawa). He is a member of the Society for NeuroOncology (SNO), American Medical Association, American Physiological Society (Inactive), The Society for Neuroscience (Inactive) and the American Academy of Neurology (AAN). He is also the recipient of numerous awards including the "Medical Innovator - 2013 Award" from the Sangamon County Medical society for his discovery of a novel molecularly targeted approach for the treatment of spinal cord hemangioblastomas, Excellence Scholarship in Science and Engineering from the University of Ottawa, Prize for Outstanding Achievements from the Ottawa Hospital Foundation and a highly coveted Canadian Institutes of Health Research National Fellowship Award for investigating the role of endogenous neural stem cells in brain repair following ischemic and traumatic brain injury.
